For the artist, the history buff, the adventurer, and everyone in between! Here are ten dates for you and your sweetie to try this summer.
See if you can try them all!
Romantic Bike Ride Along The Greenway
Isn’t there something just s’sweet about a casual bike date? Reminds me of that scene from The Notebook…oh, to be young and in love.
But I digress. Take bae out on the greenway for a romantic bike ride this summer! Depending on where you get on and off, you can ride along the Tennessee River, grab a drink at Bearden Beer Market, or stop for a picnic at one of the many parks along your route.
Not sure where to plan your ride? Join a guided community ride! Dreambikes in the Old City hosts a community ride every Saturday afternoon. This is a great way to explore the city with your date with a little less pressure.
Jazz It Up In Market Square
Want to take your date to a show without spending big money? Head to Market Square for a night of jazz! Every Tuesday evening through August, Marble City 5 will play a lil’ cool jazz in the Square. Bring a lawn chair and post-up in front of the stage. If you need some booze to lighten the nerves, take your date up to the Pres Pub rooftop or Uncorked patio for a drink.
Peruse The Market Square Farmers' Market
The Saturday Market Square Farmers’ Market is one of our favorite activities in Knoxville. Browse through different vendors offering food, drinks, and jewelry! If you don’t mind spending a little cash, grab coffee from Three Bears, brunch from one of the food trucks on Union, and a sweet treat for later from VG’s Bakery! Don’t forget to get some free samples from different booths.
If the Market Square Farmer’s Market isn’t for you, there are several others in the area y’all can check out! Here are 11 other markets in the area.
Learn And Explore At Local Museums
Is your date a history buff? How about an art fanatic? There are several museums in town – all within walking distance of one another. Beat the summertime heat and explore the air-conditioned Knoxville Museum of Art, East Tennessee Historical Center, and McClung Museum.
Volunteer And Get Bae To Buy You A New Pet
Make your date think you’re a good person while simultaneously pulling at their heartstrings! Both Young Williams and the Humane Society of East Tennessee seek volunteers to play with their adorable pups and kittens. Bonus points if you fall in love with a four-legged friend and adopt it!
Movie Night At Your Favorite German Brewery
Movie night has never been so affordable! Our favorite German fortress-turned-brewery turns into an outdoor movie theater every Thursday night. The movie and popcorn are free – the only thing you’ll have to pay for is your German lager. Upcoming movie screenings include A Dog’s Purpose, The Lost City of Z, and American Sniper.
Team Up To Win Trivia
Does your significant other ever act like a know-it-all? That’s a rhetorical question – we all know the answer is yes.
Here’s their time to shine! Bring him or her to trivia night with Knox Trivia Guys and have them help you win some serious prizes. Knoxville has trivia at various times all week long.
Get Lost In East Tennessee Beauty
Nestled in the East Tennessee natural beauty, a hike through nature is an easy-yet-impressive date idea. If you’re looking for something simple and casual, head to Ijams Nature Center and hop in Mead’s Quarry to cool off afterward! For something a little more challenging, take a hike up to House Mountain! If you don’t mind a drive, head up to the Smokies. We recently discovered our new favorite excursion, Grotto Falls, which offers scenic views and a waterfall!
Get Festive With It!
East Tennessee is known for having 83274910 festivals throughout the warm months. This summer, bring your date to a few free ones!
Some free festivals in the forthcoming weeks include the Kuumba Festival, Summer on Broadway in Blount County, and Festival on the Fourth for the 4th of July.
L.O.L. The Night Away At A Comedy Show
According to many scientific studies that I can’t bother looking up at the moment, many folks place a good sense of humor pretty high on their compatibility checklist. Easiest way to see what your date thinks is funny? Take ‘em to a comedy show!
Scruffy City Hall hosts a free improv show on Tuesday nights. This interactive improv show occassionally requires crowd participation – which keeps things lively and entertaining. While this is a free show, drinks will cost ya – so you may want to pregame beforehand!
Are you heading out on any of these free date ideas?
