Five Cocktails to Sip During the Solar Eclipse

August 21 will come and go, the moon will pass across the sun, and for a few moments, East Tennessee will be in the path of a truly amazing solar spectacle. That's all good and fine, but what you REALLY need to know is what to drink when toasting this momentous event!

We know you love cocktails so we scoured the recipe books for five indulgent libations to wet your whistle during the Solar Eclipse of 2017!

Ring of Fire Shot

Ingredients:

1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Vodka
Tabasco sauce
Chili pepper slices for garnish

Method:

Combine tequila and vodka in a shot glass. Add as much Tabasco sauce as you can handle. Garnish with sliced chili pepper.

The Eclipse Cocktail

Ingredients:

1 oz Tequila
34 oz Cherry Heering
34 oz Aperol
34 oz Lemon juice
14 oz Mezcal
Method:

Add all the ingredients except the mezcal to a shaker and fill with ice.

Shake well and strain into a rocks glass containing a 2-inch ice cube.

Float the mezcal on top.

Corona Cocktail

Ingredients:

12 Raspberries
2 oz Bourbon Whiskey
1 oz Black Raspberry Liqueur
1/2 oz Lime Juice
2 oz Cranberry Juice
Splash of Ginger Beer
Fresh berries and mint for garnish

Method:

Muddle raspberries in the base of a shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients, shake with ice, and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.

Top with splash of ginger beer, fresh berries, and mint.

Solar Flare Cocktail

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Ciroc vodka
1 1/2 oz fresh orange juice
1 tsp Palo Cortado sherry
1 tsp orgeat syrup
-dash of Peychaud bitters

Method:

Mix vodka, orange juice, sherry, orgeat syrup and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into chilled wine glass.

Garnish with dash of bitters.

Total Solar Eclipse Cocktail

  • 4 ounces Sparkling Clementine or Orange Pop
  • 1.5 ounces Dark Rum
  • Orange Slice for Garnish
Method:

Pour Sparkling Clementine or Orange Pop over Ice in a cocktail glass. Gently pour dark rum on top

Garnish with an orange slice
