Press Release: January 2019 Local Artists with Massive 20 Ton Glass Collection Open Studio for Use by the Public A pair of local artists, Golda Houser and her daughter Adrienne Diffin started out six years ago with the desire to spend more time together and quickly fell in love with making stained glass art as a team. They have made glass art with the traditional methods of copper foil and lead, but eventually found that taking the broken glass and building it back into something beautiful was both therapeutic and most enjoyable, an art form known commonly as mosaics. From stained glass mosaic art they have completed several furniture refurbishing projects, created sculpted mixed media art for the home and garden, and have gained a massive glass collection totaling 20 tons of stained glass. It is rumored that the famous artist Picassiette (Picasso of Plates) used only 15 tons to cover an entire home, small cathedral and gardens before his passing in 1964. The only question still remaining for this mom and daughter team is what to create. The duo is interested in commissioned large scale sculptures and wall mosaics and opened their mosaic art studio on Sutherland in January 2017. The only studio in Knoxville that specializes specifically in stained glass mosaics and is open to the public. Along with Adrienne’s daughter-in-law Kristi Diffin they teach classes to teens and adults on nights and weekends and spend day hours creating commissioned artwork. It is a small family business built on a love for the earth friendly art. Anyone can stop in and see their collection and latest projects Mondays and Thursdays 12-5 or book a class or workshop online at www.simplysocialmosaics.com. Upcoming workshops include mailbox design, bird baths, light boxes and mandalas. The studio is located next door to Gus’s Famous Fried Chicken and Savelli’s Italian restaurant on 3049 Sutherland Ave. Across from West High School
