Celebrate Memorial Day with These Events and Ceremonies

Memorial day commemorates those who've served and lost their lives. The holiday honors the brave men and women who fought for our freedom.

There's so many ways to celebrate this holiday weekend whether its barbecuing with your family, hanging out at the lake or going to one of these events happening on Memorial Day!

Honor Day in Fountain City

Fountain City is hosting their 44th annual Honor Day at their town hall. There will be free entertainment, children’s activities and prizes. The Community Awards Ceremony begins at 3PM in the Gazebo, followed by the Memorial Day Ceremony at 3:30 with the East TN Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial Day Services at Knoxville National Cemetery

The 79th New York Highlanders will start the ceremonies at 11 a.m. to honor the men and women who lost their lives in service. During the event, attendees can also explore the Union Soldiers Monument, “one of the largest Union monuments in the South, according to a news release.

Reading of the Names

Starting at sunrise, volunteers will read the names of over 6,000 fallen heroes from our area. A dedication of four new names engraved on the memorial will follow the reading.

Memorial Day Murph

CrossFit Pistol Creek is excited to host again a community workout: Memorial Day Murph. This is a workout to honor LT. Michael P. Murphy, United States Navy (SEAL) who lost his life on June 28, 2005. LT. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Sign up at the link.
