Rain, rain, go away, but if you come another day, we'll STILL have plenty of great movies to watch! And what better to watch on a dreary wet day than movies with memorable scenes of rain and storms? Singin' In The Rain
What It’s About: As movies transition from silent to sound, a production company must figure out a way to make their lead actress more marketable when she must perform in a musical version of her latest film, but doesn’t have the voice to cut it. They bring in another actress to dub her songs, but the deception creates its own problems, with hilarious and heart-felt results.

What Makes It Rain: Gene Kelly appears in arguably one of the most famous scenes in film history. His rainy day jaunt through the streets have been parodied and referenced innumerable times, and if the title song “Singin in the Rain” isn’t enough to get your nostalgia going, Kelly’s classic moves and skill sure will!
What It’s About: Deckard is forced by the police Boss to continue his old job as Replicant Hunter. His assignment: eliminate four escaped Replicants from the colonies who have returned to Earth. Before starting the job, Deckard goes to the Tyrell Corporation and he meets Rachel, a Replicant girl he falls in love with, and makes him question the nature of his own humanity.

What Makes It Rain: It rains during almost this entire movie, and we are sure that at some point the set must have flooded. But the final battle between Deckard and Roy is something of a cinematic masterpiece. In the final moments, Roy delivers a soliloquy that speaks to the nature of the human condition, and how through all his experiences, everything he’s seen, everything he’s done, “… will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”
IT: Chapter One
What It’s About: Seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine, are about to face their worst nightmare — an ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town’s children. Banding together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the murderous, bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise.

What Makes It Rain: An adaptation of the book by the same name, and a remake of the miniseries from 1990, IT grabs you right from the start, and doesn’t let you go. The opening scene begins with young Georgie playing with his boat in the rain, when he loses it down a street grate, and we first meet the terrifying incarnation of Pennywise the Clown. What happens next might leave you feeling a bit… disarmed.
What It’s About: A samurai answers a village’s request for protection after he falls on hard times. The town needs protection from bandits, so the samurai gathers six others to help him teach the people how to defend themselves, and the villagers provide the soldiers with food. A giant battle occurs when 40 bandits attack the village.
Who’s In It: Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Yoshio Inaba, Seiji Miyaguchi, Minoru Chiaki, Daisuke Kato, Isao Kimura, Kunihori Kodo
What Makes It Rain: Akira Kurosawa is arguably one of the greatest directors of all time, and Seven Samurai is one of his many masterpieces. The final battle between the samurai and the attackers takes place during a massive deluge, and so much in cinema, the rain in this scene represents cleansing of the old life and the arrival of the new.
What It’s About: The night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger bent on tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes, and punishing them.

What Makes It Rain: This entire movie seems to be filled with rain, but the moment that makes us sit back, take a breath, and realize the pure center of the story, is when The Crow saves a young girl from being hit by a car, a girl who was close to the murdered couple. He reminds her that “it can’t rain all the time” and our heart explodes as she realizes he must be the friend she’d thought she’d lost.
The Cat in the Hat
What It’s About: The trouble-making Cat in the Hat arrives at the home of bored young Sally Walden and her brother, Conrad, while their mother is out. The family’s pet fish objects to the Cat’s presence, but that doesn’t stop the hat-wearing giant feline from trying to have fun, no matter how much destruction is left in his wake.
Who’s In It: Mike Myers, Alec Baldwin, Kelly Preston, Dakota Fanning, Spencer Breslin, Amy Hill, Sean Hayes, Victor Brandt
What Makes It Rain: A movie made about finding fun on a rainy day doesn’t need much explanation. Myers unique brand of humor translates well into this fun and over-the-top adventure that shows us imagination can make any day exciting.
What It’s About: Two paleontologists and a mathematician are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park’s mastermind assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.

What Makes It Rain: There are numerous scenes that have become iconic in this blockbuster and franchise-building film from Steven Spielburg. But the one that makes it perfect for a rainy day is when we first meet the main antagonist of the movie: the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex. The park is consumed by a massive storm which only adds to the terror as the T-Rex breaks out of its containment and attacks the group who are stranded in the rain in front of the enclosure. There’s mud, there’s screaming, but don’t move! She can’t see you if you don’t move.
The Shawshank Redemption
What It’s About: Andy Dufresne is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover, and must serve his time in the infamous Shawshank Penitentiary. However, only Andy knows he didn’t commit the crimes. While there, he forms a friendship with Red, and experiences brutality of prison life, adapts, helps the warden, etc., all in 19 years.

What Makes It Rain: Stephen King is generally thought of as a master of modern horror, but at the core of his stories is the indomitable nature of the human spirit. Such is shown in The Shawshank Redemption, where the culmination of years of struggle and suffering ends in one of the most heart-burstingly inspiring moments in the entire film. We won’t ruin it for you, but trust us… You’ll know it when you see it.
What It’s About: In 1940s South Carolina, mill worker Noah Calhoun and rich girl Allie are desperately in love. But her parents don’t approve. When Noah goes off to serve in World War II, it seems to mark the end of their love affair, and in the interim, Allie becomes involved with another man. But when Noah returns to their small town years later, on the cusp of Allie’s marriage, it soon becomes clear that their romance is anything but over

What Makes It Rain: One of the most popular love stories of the past two decades, McAdams and Gosling share a kiss in the midst of a massive downpour. We know that rain automatically makes love scenes steamier, but add Gosling to the mix, and you’ve got a recipe for one of our favorite rain scenes.
What It’s About: Suzy travels to Germany to attend ballet school. When she arrives, late on a stormy night, no one lets her in, and she sees Pat, another student, fleeing from the school. When Pat reaches her apartment, she is murdered. The next day, Suzy is admitted to her new school, but has a difficult time settling in. She hears noises, and often feels ill. As more people die, Suzy uncovers the terrifying secret history of the place.

What Makes It Rain: From the moment it begins Dario Argento sets out to terrify us. His use of lighting and the electric-rock sound track create a sense of anxiety and tension as our main character rides through the dark, wet streets, unaware of the horror that awaits her at her final destination. It’s a bizarre and effective beginning, closely followed by the first of many terrible events that befall the heroine and those around her.
